The warehouse did not pass the necessary procedures
Deputy Head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Viktor Evtukhov said that after the incident at the Wildberries warehouse, the issue of strengthening the requirements for the placement and operation of such facilities is being considered.
It’s interesting that the company’s warehouse operated without going through the necessary procedures. This, according to him, was strange: «What we know about this Wildberries center, — It’s strange that he worked, but, as I understand it, he was not yet accepted and did not go through all the necessary procedures. I think there will be a separate trial on this matter, the relevant authorities will evaluate and make a decision. But if necessary, then, probably, it is possible to make more requirements for the placement and operation of such objects».
Viktor Evtukhov added that cases of fires are recorded not only at distribution centers of marketplaces, but also at other facilities. Currently, the safety issues of such facilities are regulated quite clearly.
«There are control and supervisory authorities that inspect such objects. <…> Today, all the procedures that need to be completed to launch such an object are prescribed. Another thing is how such objects can operate without following all these procedures. This, of course, is a separate conversation – I think our colleagues will return to it later», — said Evtukhov.
A fire at the Wildberries warehouse in the village of Shushary in St. Petersburg occurred on January 13. There were 1.2 thousand people in the warehouse; there was no information about the casualties. The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case into the fire under Article 201 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (abuse of power).
Previously it became known that Wildberries is offering owners of burnt goods in a warehouse in Shushary to refuse compensation. The Company has already paid compensation to more than 50% or about 160 thousand entrepreneurs.
