All thanks to the new memory generation
Western Digital's new SSD, called the SN5000S, based on QLC memory, turns out to be faster than its predecessor with TLC memory.
SN5000S is aimed at PC manufacturers, not retail sales. The new product is available in versions ranging from 512 GB to 2 TB. It is based on QLC memory, which does not prevent the drive from being ahead of its predecessor, the SN740 with 112-layer TLC memory. The new product offers read and write speeds of 6000 and 5600 MB/s, respectively, versus 5150 and 4850 MB/s for the previous generation model. The endurance value of the new product is also higher: 600 TBW versus 500 TBW. This is all true for the 2 TB modification.
The secret of such indicators lies in the new 162-layer QLC memory. This generation is called BiCS6, and is currently only available in this WD drive.
