Still in test mode and with driver
Moscow Deputy Mayor for Transport Maxim Liksutov said that testing of unmanned trams on several routes in Moscow will be carried out this year. According to him, a traffic control system is currently being developed, which will be entirely built on Russian components and algorithms. Work begins with an unmanned tram and this year it is planned to launch such trams on some routes in test mode, with a driver for now.
Earlier, Liksutov noted that trams, in which “there will be no people at all,” and which can operate completely autonomously, may appear in 2025. Such a system will be able to “see everything that happens on the road network, predict the behavior of both passengers and drivers.” As for the metro, the transition to unmanned train control will require at least 5-10 years of work, Liksutov believes.
