A very interesting race was held in Australia. There they compared two versions of the Toyota Land Cruiser 70: a completely new one, with a 2.8-liter four-cylinder diesel engine, introduced in 2023, and an old one, with a 4.5-liter V8 diesel engine.
Despite the fact that the cars were chosen with different cabins and, accordingly, weight, their weight was brought to a common denominator using ballast: it turned out to be 2289 kg versus 2286 kg. If the four-cylinder engine of the new Land Cruiser 70 produces 201 hp, then the power of the old eight-cylinder engine is 202 hp. In fact, the difference is only in the maximum torque (500 N·m for the new version and 450 N·m for the old version), and also in the fact that the new Land Cruiser 70 is equipped with 6- step automatic transmission, and the previous model — 5-speed manual.
But these differences were enough for the new Toyota Land Cruiser 70 to confidently outperform the old version.
