Toyota Alphard flipped on its side during safety tests, but that didn't stop it from receiving high marks

The car was tested according to the JNCAP method

The popular Toyota Alphard minivan passed safety tests using the JNCAP (Japan New Car Assessment Program) method. The car was highly rated, earning 181.78 points out of a possible 197 and a rating of 92%, equivalent to four stars out of five. However, there were some not very pleasant surprises.

In active safety tests, the Toyota Alphard demonstrated almost flawless results. The car slowed down and stopped in a timely manner in front of obstacles, cyclists and pedestrians, including at night.

The minivan also showed good results in terms of passive safety. The power structure of the body demonstrated high strength under all types of impacts specified in the tests. The restraint systems worked properly and did not cause any complaints from the testers.

However, during a side impact, the Toyota Alphard overturned on its side, which did not affect the final protocol in any way, since according to the JNCAP regulations this is not considered significant.

The only drawback in terms of passive safety was the safety of the front end for pedestrians in the event of a collision. Due to the short hood, the ratio of the area of the pliable surface to the length of the hard edges was insufficient.
