No decision yet

The other day we talked about the fact that in Russia they are discussing a ban on the parallel import of any smartphones, tablets and laptops, and now the Ministry of Industry and Trade has begun to study the issue of increasing import customs duties on radio-electronic products.

This information was taken from a letter that the department sent to specialized associations, electronics manufacturers and state corporations. Among the recipients of the letter are the consortiums «Computer Engineering» (includes Aquarius, Yadro and other electronics manufacturers), Telecommunications Technologies (includes Rostelecom, Element Group, Rostec, etc.), Lighting Engineering, Electronic Enterprises Association mechanical engineering», state corporation «Rostec» and «Roscosmos» and others. The letter was sent on February 29, 2024

As follows from the letter, the issue is still being studied, and no decisions have been made. In particular, there is no understanding by what amount duties should be increased. At the same time, the possibility of increasing duties is being considered for product categories in which the volume of domestic production is sufficient to cover market needs.

Association of trading companies and manufacturers of electrical and computer equipment, which includes DNS, «M.Video-Eldorado», «Citylink» and other retailers selling electronics have already sent a response letter to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, expressing disagreement with the idea of increasing duties. According to representatives of the association, in Russia there are currently no prerequisites for this. The letter also focuses on the fact that the increase in duties must be agreed upon with the states that are members of the EAEU and the WTO.

But the Association of Manufacturers of LEDs and Systems Based on them agrees with the position of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, but, as the name implies, we are talking about completely different products.
