It seems that everything is already clear with the type of memory for future flagship video cards. Samsung will introduce GDDR7 memory in a month.
As it became known, the Korean giant will announce a new graphics memory at the ISSCC 2024 exhibition, which will be held from February 18 to 22.
As Samsung itself said earlier, this will be memory with an effective frequency of 37 GHz. That is, a video card with a 384-bit bus with such memory will have a throughput of 1.7 TB/s. In general, the increase compared to GDDR6X will be huge, since the latter usually operates at frequencies of 20-23 GHz.
True, in addition to memory with a frequency of 37 GHz, there will also be GDDR7 with lower frequencies: from 32 to 36 GHz and not only from Samsung.
At the same time, such fast memory will allow video card manufacturers to provide the latter with narrower memory buses, which simplifies development and reduces the cost of production. It would not be surprising if we see a 128-bit bus in the $500-600 price segment. However, the RTX 5090 model is rumored to have a 384-bit bus and GDDR7 memory.
