The world of Tamagotchi Uni expands its borders
Since becoming available worldwide last summer, the Tamagotchi Uni has remained a product with a lot of untapped potential.
Besides all the basic action one would expect from a digital toy at this point, the Wi-Fi enabled Tamagotchi Uni promised Tamaverse users — a virtual playground that will expand the capabilities of your Tamagotchi like never before.
Players could send their characters there to «meet» with others, go on a «trip» and buy clothes for digital pets, although these small additions don't add much substance. Experience «travel» involved watching a short cartoon and sometimes receiving a special dish, item, or achievement badge. Even the ability to communicate was severely limited: players could only send one heart («like» to tag another player's Tamagotchi) per day.
Tamaverse was slow to live up to expectations, even though it was Uni's biggest selling point.
This changed with the update released on March 19th — version 1.6.0 — Bandai has opened the “Tama Portal,” an area of the “Tamaverse” that has been inaccessible all this time. A few days later, the first two DLC packs for Tamagotchi Uni were released in the form of Tamaverse Tickets, which allow users to travel to new locations through this portal. As a non-Tamaverse bonus, the update also answers player requests for more item storage by adding a My Box storage area where you can store excess items so you no longer have to remove old ones to make room for new ones.
The first two «Tamaverse»tickets are already available. One, which takes the player to Very Berry Land, is free, while the other, LoveMelo Concert, costs $6. Each new area features several additional characters to raise (including some new to the franchise), a themed mini-game, and a store with new food, items, accessories, and furniture that can be purchased with Gotchi Points.
This is precisely the ??depth that virtual space implied.
Purchasing the second DLC ticket gives you access to a download code that can be used three times. Once the code is registered on the device, you can visit this location an unlimited number of times and freely switch between different loaded locations. This means that users will be able to use the same codes to download Very Berry Land and LoveMelo Concert on both Tamagotchi Uni devices, leaving one use per ticket in case they ever need to reset.
As with the Tamagotchi Smart DLC, TamaSma physical maps, only one Tamaverse ticket can be active at a time, so switching will destroy any location-specific items or food in the inventory, but will not need to be reapplied enter the code to switch back. All downloaded locations will be in a new list called DL Area when visiting the Tama portal.
In each location there are more than one or two characters — there are six of them. Some players buy new devices for this expansion. And in the free version of Very Berry Land, the fan-favorite adorable strawberry Ichigotchi returns.
With these updates, Tamagotchi Uni begins to realize its potential. Tamaverse now offers a more immersive and engaging experience, allowing users to explore new locations, meet unique characters and enjoy exciting mini-games. Fans of the Tamagotchi franchise can expect even more exciting adventures in the Tamaverse.
The update also introduced a new character, Drumcrubitchi, who is a drum kit with a face.
All items that can be purchased through the Tama Portal cost much less than the regular Tama Mall offerings. Furniture and accessories cost between 200 and 500 Gotchi points.
In Very Berry Land, you can play Cake Factory, where you move your character to place strawberries on top of cake slices as they go down a conveyor belt. LoveMelo Concert brings back the popular Guitar Hero-style rhythm game familiar from Tama Arena's Nyanoe Dance, but adds a new song to the new Happy Happy Harmony.
One of the features of previous versions of the modern Tamagotchi, such as Tamagotchi On, was new locations. Tama Portal's new destinations offer these too, and fans are hoping that Bandai will continue to add locations even after the additional expansions announced in update 1.6.0.
According to the announcement materials, at least three more new DL zones are on the way, including the Tamamori Fashion Show, which is scheduled to take place at the end of May. This world will feature several new and unique Tamagotchi characters, such as anthropomorphic work boots called Bootsbrothers. Details of the remaining areas have not yet been revealed.
