Terminator Survivors is expected to be released in 2024. This is something like survival in the world of the famous Terminator franchise.
The developers of Terminator Survivors noticed the interest in the project and decided to collect answers to frequently asked questions in one material in the Steam community .
In the description of Terminator Survivors, they indicate the time of the game: “Four years have passed since humanity practically disappeared from the face of the earth. No one still knows the whole truth about those events. You leave your refuge and try to build some semblance of a society in a crazy world where everything is against you, and machines are trying to get rid of the remnants of humanity. Your task is to find materials, resources, information and other survivors in the surrounding area in order to set up a headquarters for your group.”
Terminator Survivors developers commented on this timeline choice – this time period was not particularly explored:
“We chose this timeline for its exciting storytelling potential – the chapter of the story , so fascinating, but not yet studied. We witnessed Sarah Connor's attempts to prevent Judgment Day and the Resistance's struggle with Skynet. And yet, while Judgment Day figures prominently in the Terminator mythology, its aftermath, the resilience of its survivors, and the birth of John Connor's Resistance remain largely untold.”
It's 2009 in the world of Terminator Survivors and various factions are competing for dominance over territory and resources. Few people are even aware of the events that led to the dropping of the bombs, or the existence of Skynet.
Terminator Survivors is billed as a first-person game. It will support single player play in offline mode (i.e. without connecting to the network) and will have an original story, including side quests that will help you get to know the world better. Multiplayer co-op will allow you to experience the entire story of the game with up to three friends, and there will be no PvP planned.
Terminator Survivors will feature a “lone T-800”, which is described as a ruthless and formidable hunter , which cannot be stopped.
This is explained in lore: “The game takes place in 2009, shortly after Judgment Day, during a period when Skynet's production capabilities had not yet reached their peak. The T-800 serves as a reminder of Skynet's relentless pursuit through time. The T-800 that players encounter is one such unit sent by Skynet in its desperate attempts to rewrite history and ensure victory in the Future War“.
It was also driven by a desire to capture the tone and atmosphere of the first two films, where “the looming threat of an unstoppable machine instilled a sense of fear and inevitability.”
«We aimed to capture the essence of the first two films, where the looming threat of an unstoppable machine inspired a sense of dread and inevitability. With the lone T-800 as the unrelenting antagonist, players are immersed in an atmosphere of constant danger and tension. Just like the main characters in the movies, players will experience the painful feeling of being hunted by an enemy who knows no mercy and does not give in to persuasion“.
Release Terminator Survivors is scheduled for October 24, 2024, using the modern Unreal Engine 5.
