DOOM: The Dark Ages will not be like Eternal, id Software promised

“I keep waiting for the programmers to tell me no, but that hasn’t happened yet. It feels like technically we have the opportunity to make our best game yet.”

GamesRadar managed to talk with DOOM: The Dark Ages creative director Hugo Martin and find out some details about the upcoming brutal shooter.

Martin claims that the game “will return to its origins“, and the Doom Slayer will become a weapon of mass destruction in the hands of the gods and kings, which they will unleash on the heads of demons.

In The Dark Ages, the Doom Slayer will become more powerful and heavier, turning into a real tank, and will not fly around opponents, as it was in Eternal.

“If you were an F22 fighter in Doom Eternal, this time we wanted you to feel like an Abrams tank.”.< /p>

As Martin says, developing vertical gameplay after Eternal was pointless, so the developers decided to return the Executioner to the horizontal plane.

«It was a great experience, but we want each game to be its own“.

The Doom Slayer will face a record breaking number of demons in The Dark Ages. The locations in the game have become larger, allowing much larger cohorts of monsters to be placed on them.

“I’m still waiting for the programmers to tell me “no” , but this has not happened yet. It feels like technically we have the opportunity to make our best game yet.”.

The saw shield will become an indispensable weapon in the hero's arsenal, which can be used to deflect projectiles, parry attacks and blocks, and also to cut enemies into pieces, combining it with other guns.
