At today's press conference, Sony invited Honda CEO Toshihiro Mibe to the stage to talk about the partnership between the companies. Yasuhide Mizuno, CEO of Sony Honda Mobility, then took the stage to talk about his experience using the car software.
He began by demonstrating the software-defined nature of the car by bringing it onto the stage using a PS5 controller. But Yasuhide Mizuno immediately warned that this was implemented «exclusively for stage demonstration».
Sony says the car's software-defined nature will turn it into a “digital playground” where creators can invent new in-car experiences. During the presentation, an example of a game was shown in which a vehicle is displayed in a virtual world next to escaped Godzilla-like monsters, for which you can earn points for capturing them.
Sony is now in its fifth year of showing off its upcoming electric vehicle at CES press conferences, which it announced last year will be called AFEELA and will hit the market in 2026.
This year's press conference focused on Sony's software plans for its new car, as well as features mostly related to artificial intelligence.
It was previously announced that the AFEELA concept will receive a twin-engine version with a power of 536 hp, acceleration to 100 km/h will take 4.8 seconds, and a top speed of 240 km/h. Sony still sticks to these specifications.
