In November 2023, Capcom confirmed that it was not interested in supporting modifications, as the community's work was “harmful” and could even damage the reputation of the developers or the product itself.
Presumably, the corporation is going to fight modifications and has decided to introduce a new DRM into its old games. Twitter account PC_Focus reported that the developers are adding technology that reduces game performance to 10-15 frames per second, and also causes stuttering.
“Capcom has begun adding Enigma Protector DRM to its catalog of games.
This DRM is a cancer:
- Hinders modding
- Does not allow use of Cheat Engine
- Reduces performance to 10-15 frames per second. Stutters appear.”
DRM is currently used in older games, but if Capcom starts adding the technology to new ones, the attitude towards the company may change. The company will release Dragon's Dogma 2 in 2024, followed by Monster Hunter Wilds the following year.
