Reports of an updated version of the PlayStation 5 appeared in 2023. A more powerful model will provide a higher quality gaming experience ahead of the full launch of the new generation.
CNBC editors spoke with analysts who believe that Sony will release the PS5 Pro in 2024. Sales forecasts for the entry-level PlayStation 5 model have been reduced for good reason: company representatives understand that some buyers are waiting for a more powerful version.
Experts have no doubt – Sony wants to offer PS5 Pro in 2024 year so that gamers have time to stock up on devices before the release of GTA 6. A few months ago, reports appeared that Grand Theft Auto 6 would run on the base PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S with 30 frames per second, and the PlayStation 5 Pro would be able to offer gameplay with 60 frames per second.
The Japanese company planned to sell 25 million consoles by March 31, but lowered forecasts to 21 million – analysts indicate that the manufacturer expects a “gradual decline” in interest in PlayStation 5 as a more powerful version hits the market.
The CEO of Tokyo-based gaming consultancy Kantan Games, Serkan Toto, told CNBC: PS5 Pro in the second half of 2024. Sony wants to make sure it has great hardware when GTA VI releases in 2025, which will be a shot in the arm for the entire gaming industry.”
