Spoiler Warning: This post discusses plot content in the video game The Last of Us Part 2.

Since Season 2 was announced in January, fans have been wondering about Joel's fate on the show, given that the character is shockingly killed by Abby in the game's plot.

Pedro Pascal, who plays Joel on the show, recently hinted that the show might stray from one of the most impactful character deaths in the franchise. When asked by a journalist if Joel's fate would change in the second season, Pedro said that the team could “surprise” everyone by changing the script of the video game.

” I think they'll always be looking for ways to use the incredible source material they have and surprise us with how they can use that material in another format, like a television show. But I wouldn’t want to spoil anything for anyone, and to be honest, I don’t have all the information yet.”

The Last of Us showrunner Craig Mazin previously spoke about the team's plans to move away from the source material, saying they were “not afraid to kill off characters” but didn't feel “constrained by the source material.” < /p>
