They have a new power efficient SoC, new AI features and BeaconLink communication for emergencies
The Chinese company Oppo has slightly redesigned the Reno12 series and introduced Oppo Reno12 and Oppo Reno12 Pro for the European market. It is worth noting that they are different from Reno12 and 12 Pro for China.
The first difference — This is the Dimensity 7300-Energy chipset, optimized by MediaTek and Oppo for «exceptional power efficiency». Both phones received a 6.7-inch OLED display with a frame rate of 120 Hz and FHD+ resolution. The Pro model uses Gorilla Glass Victus 2, while the base model – Gorilla Glass 7i.
Oppo Reno12 Pro boasts excellent cameras. The main camera has a resolution of 50 MP (1/1.95 inches, Sony LYT600) and a 26 mm f/1.8 lens with optical image stabilization. Next to it is an 8 MP ultra-wide-angle module (16 mm, f/2.2) with an IMX355 sensor.
Pro model named Oppo «Portrait Expert» for two portrait cameras – a 50 megapixel module in the main camera on the rear panel and a front module also of 50 megapixels. Both cameras can record 4K video at 30fps.
The regular Oppo Reno12 has the same main and ultra-wide-angle cameras, but it lacks a telephoto module, instead having a 2MP macro module. The selfie camera is 32MP.
The phones have AI-powered features like AI Clear Face, which improves facial contours, hair, and eyebrows. AI Best Face ensures that everyone in the frame has their eyes open. Oppo has also updated the AI Eraser. For text and speech, there's an AI Toolbox consisting of AI Write, AI Speak, and AI Summary, which use Google's Gemini model.
Both phones also pack 5,000mAh batteries with 80W charging support and are IP65 water and dust resistant. The Reno12 Pro is thinner at 7.40mm but slightly heavier at 180g. The base model is 7.6mm thick and weighs 177g.
Oppo has introduced BeaconLink for emergency calls. The service allows voice calls up to 200m away using proprietary Bluetooth protocols, without requiring cellular coverage. In fact, BeaconLink turns Oppo Reno12 and Reno12 Pro into high-tech walkie-talkies.
Both models will be available soon. Oppo Reno12 costs 500 euros (12/256 GB), and Oppo Reno12 Pro costs 600 euros (12/512 GB).
