According to Business Insider sources (two people close to the company) , OpenAI is preparing to release the next version of its large language model, GPT-5, in the coming months (likely mid-year).
Some enterprise customers are reported to have received demo versions of the model and associated advanced ChatGPT chatbot settings. According to one client executive, the model is truly superior and offers use cases exclusive to his business.
OpenAI has not officially announced a release date for GPT-5 or commented on the rumors.
Another person said the model is still learning and awaiting security checks and red-team testing, a process in which employees and usually third parties try to identify problems before the tool is made available to the public.
The latest update for ChatGPT – GPT-4 – was released a year ago, and subsequently an improved version of GPT-4 Turbo, which solved the problem of “laziness” of the chatbot when it refused to respond to some prompts.
