Mazda has the popular Mazda6 sedan, and an electric version may be coming soon. This is evidenced by the patent for the name Mazda 6e, issued at the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).
Interestingly, Mazda has never used the «e» symbol before. next to the numeric model code, instead the company designated (and still designates) its «green» models like e-Skyactiv. However, the Japanese company is expanding its line of “new energy” models, so the designations may change. Also noteworthy is the fact that there is a space between the brand and the model name, in contrast to the usual combined designations Mazda3 and Mazda6.
It is already known that Mazda is working on a «six» new generation, the car is being created specifically for the American market. According to preliminary data, the car will receive a new layout with a front engine and basic rear-wheel drive. The car is credited with hybrid power plants, as well as 3.3-liter gasoline and diesel engines from current crossovers. But nothing was reported before the publication of the patent that the Mazda6 would turn into an electric car.
