Under such conditions, localization makes no sense
After the introduction of large-scale sanctions in 2022, KamAZ thoroughly began localizing its component base, and made significant progress in this matter. However, localization of a number of components makes no sense: for the price of bare metal in Russia, you can buy a finished product abroad. The Deputy General Director of KAMAZ spoke about this — Director for Development Irek Gumerov within the framework of the recently held St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
«We do have a number of localized parts for mechanical parts. But I can say that today our metal price — at the price of the finished product there, [abroad]. There is no need for higher mathematics, the problem does not have a solution. If input materials are more expensive than the finished product, how to localize?
