Russia took fourth place
In February 2024, the Russian car market reached fourth place in terms of sales of new passenger cars in Europe. According to the analytical agency «Avtostat», in the last month of winter, 103,954 new cars were sold in Russia, which is 85.1% more than a year earlier.
This impressive result allowed Russia to overtake such a traditional leader of the European car market as Great Britain. Germany remained in first place with 217,388 cars sold. Next come Italy (147,094 cars) and France (142,597 cars).
Experts attribute the rapid growth of the Russian car market to the expectation of higher prices due to changes in the procedure for calculating payments for the import of foreign cars from the EAEU countries from April 1. However, they note that well-equipped new cars can still be found at reasonable prices.
In the near future, the main demand will probably shift towards used cars 3-5 years old, the prices for which will remain virtually unchanged. Meanwhile, according to the director of «Avtostat» Sergei Tselikov, in the first half of 2024, about 50 new car models will appear on the Russian market.
Thus, despite the difficult economic situation, the Russian car market demonstrates enviable vitality and is even ahead of some famous European neighbors.
