Embracer Group recently sold Gearbox Entertainment to Take Two Interactive. The developers announced the dismissal of people associated with the former publisher.
Gearbox Entertainment, the company that owns the Borderlands and Duke Nukem brands, has returned to Take Two Interactive, which has decided to sell it to Embracer Group in 2021. Recently, information appeared on the Internet that the acquisition led to a reduction in employees.
The editors of Eurogamer received an official statement in which Gearbox confirmed the restructuring. True, it is not reported how many people said goodbye to their jobs, but the company assures that game developers were not laid off.
“Thank you for your thoughts and concerns about The Gearbox Entertainment as some reports of internal communications and activities begin to emerge through public channels.
We are committed to fulfilling our mission of providing entertainment to the world, and we are grateful that our talents and capabilities are of interest to you and your audience. Embracer Group will continue to report on its restructuring program, which has impacted certain Gearbox businesses outside of Gearbox Software's game development business.
Thank you for allowing us to focus on our people, be empathetic, and manage the process while balancing our current and future commitments.”
In a statement, Gearbox representatives mentioned that Embracer Group will publish an update on further progress in the restructuring. Also, CEO Lars Wingefors said that the company is stopping the sale of studios and brands, but there is no talk of new acquisitions yet.
