The Governor of St. Petersburg confirmed the plan to produce cars at the former Nissan plant
Cars that will be produced by former Russian Hyundai and Toyota plants will be localized as much as possible. This was stated by the Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov.
«We expect that the former Hyundai plant and the former Toyota plant in Shushary will immediately follow the path of maximum localization. It is important for us not just to set up new production, but to immediately set a course for the introduction of domestic technologies with the involvement of St. Petersburg and Russian designers and suppliers. There is no alternative to the revival of the St. Petersburg auto cluster», — he said on the local TV channel «78».
He also confirmed the previously announced plan to produce 25 thousand Xcite X-Cross 7 (Chery Tiggo 7 Pro) crossovers at the former Russian Nissan plant.
There is no doubt that the cars produced by the former Russian Hyundai plant are as localized as possible: even the stamping of parts for the Solaris car is carried out in Russia. As for the Toyota plant, it is participating in the project of the so-called Russian Camry: according to rumors, the plant will assemble premium Chinese cars (presumably Hongqi) under the Aurus brand. To what extent will it be possible to localize them by the start of production — The question is open. But there is absolutely no need to talk about any full release cycle at the first stage.
