Finally, there will be fewer laptops with 8 GB of RAM? Microsoft sets the minimum for AI PCs to 16 GB

This should stimulate DRAM sales

An active focus on artificial intelligence could increase the average amount of RAM not only in smartphones, but also in PCs.

According to TrendForce analysts, Microsoft has set 16 GB of RAM as the minimum for AI-powered PCs. Of course, no one is stopping you from building a PC with 8 GB and installing Windows 11 there, where the Copilot system is already integrated, but the standard will now be at the level of 16 GB.

This will lead to fewer laptops on the market with 8 GB of RAM, and at the same time increase sales of DRAM memory.

Another Microsoft requirement is processor performance in AI computing. This is the norm — 40 TOPS. It is matched by the latest Intel Meteor Lake CPUs, new AMD Ryzen APUs and the upcoming Snapdragon X Elite. But desktop CPUs do not have any NPU unit at all, so these requirements apparently do not apply to them.
