And announces two special editions

The rumors were true: after 17 years on the market, the iconic Nissan R35 GT-R is leaving the North American market this October. To this end, Nissan is introducing two limited editions previously announced for Japan: Takumi and Skyline Specials.

GT-R T-Spec Takumi Edition pays tribute to «takumi» — to the skilled craftsmen who hand-assemble the VR38DETT engine for every GT-R. It features Midnight Purple paint, reminiscent of past Skyline/GT-Rs, and an exclusive Mori Green interior.

Fans should also appreciate the standard NISMO carbon-ceramic brakes, gold-painted 20-inch NISMO RAYS forged wheels, NISMO-tuned Vehicle Dynamics and wider front fenders.

GT-R Skyline Edition is based on the GT-R Premium and combines Bayside Blue paint with a new Sora Blue interior color scheme. Prices start at $151,090 for the T-Spec Takumi Edition and $131,090 for the Skyline Edition. Both models are expected to arrive at Nissan dealers this summer, with fewer than 200 units available for US buyers.

Nissan has repeatedly hinted at a successor that would be an electric car. The harbinger was the Hyper Force concept, presented at the 2023 Tokyo Motor Show.

Nissan plans to release solid-state batteries by 2028, and an electric successor to the GT-R could arrive at least four years later.
