There is still no Fallout New Vegas 2, and Obsidian Entertainment is busy with other things. It turns out that everything could have turned out differently

Chris Avellone said that Obsidian Entertainment has repeatedly tried to approach Bethesda with the idea of projects based on the Fallout and The Elder Scrolls franchises. However, it was not possible to convince.

For example, Chris Avellone himself proposed to Bethesda the idea of a project in the spirit of Fallout New Vegas, which was released between Fallout 3 and 4, but for The Elder Scrolls. Avellone thought it would be possible to implement a system in the spirit of Activision with Call of Duty: releasing TES and Fallout games more regularly, alternating the main line/spin-offs.

Bethesda rejected this and many other ideas. Avellone suggested that Bethesda managers were unhappy with the way Fallout New Vegas was received by players and critics (both negative and positive reviews).
