The vessel will use BYD traction batteries and a “shaft generator system”
March 29, a ceremony to lay down a new ro-ro carrier for BYD with a capacity of 9,200 cars took place in Jiangsu. This reflects the company's growing export ambitions: huge ro-ro carriers will deliver BYD cars to foreign markets.
It is reported that within two years BYD will have seven (!) ro-ro ships, they will use special BYD marine traction batteries and a proprietary shaft generator system. In the latter case, we are most likely talking about BYD electric generators, which will operate from the propeller shaft.
We would like to remind you that at the beginning of March the ro-ro cruiser BYD Explorer No.1 successfully completed its first voyage to Europe, the final destination being the Belgian port of Zeebrugge. He Explorer No.1 is capable of taking on board «all» 4060 cars. Thus, the new ship will be at least twice as large.
