Google even removed support for this architecture from the Android kernel
Chinese companies, among other things, are actively using the open RISC-V architecture to create their own processors. And the United States apparently does not like this. States are reportedly considering various options for restrictions on China that could hinder the active development of RISC-V in the country.
Since they cannot directly prohibit China from using the RISC-V architecture in the United States, they are considering indirect methods of influence. Perhaps one of them has already been used. The fact is that Google recently removed support for RISC-V from the Android kernel, which complicates the work of a number of companies using both this architecture and this OS. While developers can still restore RISC-V support themselves, it will incur additional costs.
The U.S. Commerce Department said last month it was reviewing the national security implications of China's use of the technology.
Of the 25 leading members of RISC-V International, a nonprofit group dedicated to advancing the technology, more than half — from China. These include Alibaba Cloud, Huawei Technologies, ZTE and others. In total, at least 300 companies in China use RISC-V, and almost all major technology players support this standard.
