None of the major iOS application developers have yet applied to use external payment options on Apple devices.
According to Bloomberg, at the moment, only about 40 iOS developers out of 65,000 in total are interested in payments outside the App Store.
In January, as required by new EU legislation, Apple eventually allowed developers to offer third-party payments on iOS with a link to external payment options. At the same time, the company issued a series of demands and proposed a new fee of 27% (combined with payment processing fees, the total exceeds the 30% that the App Store typically charges, so the terms are hardly favorable to developers).
Changes to the payment system introduced by Apple had to satisfy a court decision in 2021. In March, Epic Games' longtime legal opponent called the iPhone maker's proposals a “hoax” and went back to court.
“It seems to me that your goal is to maintain the business model and revenues that you have had in the past,” Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers said of Apple's decision during the latest hearing.
Note that income from the distribution of applications in the App Store brings Apple income of more than $200 billion a year.
