It was disguised as an eye test app
An eye-testing app called Kimi, which actually allowed you to play pirated copies of movies, passed unnoticed by Apple testers and eventually reached the eighth place on the list of the best free entertainment apps.
As reported by The Verge, Kimi's App Store description claimed that the app “tests your eyesight,” but once downloaded and installed, it allowed you to watch TV shows and movies without paying. How it passed the App Store control is unknown.
The Kimi app offered fresh movies, various search options, and also included advertisements for monetization purposes. The app was first approved in September and has been available in the iOS and macOS app stores for several months.
This week, after The Verge wrote about the app, Apple removed it.
