ARM-based laptops are becoming more and more expensive
The high price was one of the reasons for the near-zero demand for laptops of the first generations based on the Qualcomm SoC and with Windows OS, and now Qualcomm is making another attempt to impose competition on regular laptops based on Intel and AMD processors. Will it work — Time will tell, but the cost of the first such solution revealed by the WinFuture resource — Samsung Galaxy Book 4 Edge — at least alarming.
At the heart of the Samsung Galaxy Book 4 Edge — new single-chip Arm system Snapdragon X Elite with 12 Oryon and Phoenix cores. The laptop has a 14-inch screen, 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD. The price of Galaxy Book 4 Edge in this configuration will be 1800 euros!
For comparison, even the latest MacBook Air on the Apple M3 SoC in Germany is cheaper — 1760 euros. It makes no sense to say that thin and light laptops with decent battery life on the Intel platform are even cheaper. For example, HP EliteBook 1040 G10 (Core i7-1355U, 32 GB/1 TB/5G) — 1300 euros, ASUS ZenBook 14 OLED (Core Ultra 7 155H, 32 GB/1 TB) — 1645 euros.
WinFuture believes that the Galaxy Book 4 Edge may have an advantage in terms of battery life and a built-in 5G modem (this has not yet been confirmed), but HP's example shows that thin laptops (weighing up to 1.4 kg) with Windows, 5G and Core i7 can be much cheaper. The Galaxy Book 4 Edge is expected to go on sale no earlier than June.
