The creators of the utility call the incident an exemplary flogging and begin to conduct subversive activities against Valve
Valve carried out a sudden and massive wave of bans on players using the Overplus utility for Dota 2, which collects statistics about the opposing team in the lobby, thereby allowing targeted bans on the most effective heroes at the draft stage. The utility, which by all accounts is a real cheat, has been very popular among players for 5 years, but Valve decided to take action only now.
The Overplus developers were extremely unhappy and believe that that they “became so popular” that Valve “couldn’t ignore them“:
“VALVE decided not to warn, but to arrange the first ever DOTA 2 demonstration flogging, although flogging is putting it mildly, today there was a real genocide. A huge part of our users got their accounts blocked because they launched our program. No, this is not a block for a specific function, VALVE is just not happy with us. We don’t think that the hate was directed at any particular part of the program. We really didn’t change or hide anything in the files, they set a trap precisely on the launch of the program and its process, which we did not hide in any way – which VALVE took advantage of.”.
According to the disgruntled creators of Overplus, “almost 1/4 of online Dota” was blocked.
The authors of the utility also promised not to leave the situation just like that, and are threatening to start sabotage activities:
“In general, we understand how Dota works and its algorithms, the most basic thing that can now be useful to all players who will start from scratch – we can make skins visible to everyone.
Yes, this technology was invented a long time ago, it works and we were limited only by our own thoughts. We can completely hide all players from Steam and smurfer detection systems, so you can safely play on multiple accounts and have fun with friends.”.
