This will be the largest modernization of the classic Niva in 47 years
Technical details about the future Lada Niva Sport have appeared: the volume of improvements will be so large that the release of this car can be called the biggest update of the classic three-door Niva. for all 47 years of its conveyor life.
The biggest innovation – This is a 1.6-liter 16-valve engine from Granta Sport, which will produce 122 hp. The engine will be turned to 90°, the intake and exhaust systems will be reconfigured. By the way, the serial Niva Sport will not have a snorkel – it will become an option.
But there are a number of other points that deserve attention. Thus, the brakes will change radically: 300 mm brake discs from Lada Vesta NG will be installed at the front, and rear brakes will come from Lada Granta Sport. This upgrade will significantly increase the efficiency of the system: the braking distance will be reduced by 15 meters.
Lada Niva Sport will receive a transfer case from Niva Travel and a reinforced transmission with original cross-axle differentials with four satellites instead of two. Even the wheel hubs will change. The cardan shafts will be connected using CV joints.
The suspension will change radically: the springs will become longer, new shock absorbers will appear. There will no longer be a Panhard rod axle at the rear – A-arms will appear. Even the floor in the back will be redone! However, such a suspension has not yet been implemented even on a prototype.
No one is naming prices now, but the scope of improvements is large, and, naturally, «Niva» will rise in price. The cost Niva Sport should be at the level of Niva Bronto – that is, the price relative to the current base «Niva» will increase by about 50%.
