The new technology is almost five times faster than the previous one, and also more stable and reliable

The Wi-Fi Alliance, as expected, has officially certified the new wireless standard Wi-Fi 7 (IEEE 802.11be) and published its specifications. Wi-Fi 7 supports Multi-Link Operation (MLO), which allows devices to send and receive data simultaneously on the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz bands for increased throughput, reduced latency and improved reliability. In addition, the channel width is twice that of Wi-Fi 6, at 320 MHz (where 6 GHz band is available).

According to the Wi-Fi Alliance, Wi-Fi 7 will spread rapidly: more than 233 million devices supporting the new standard are expected to hit the market in 2024, and by 2028 their number will grow to 2 .1 billion. The organization notes that the latest version of Wi-Fi will soon be used not only by smartphones, tablets, laptops and wireless routers, but also by virtual reality devices, cars and industrial equipment with Internet of Things support.

Wi-Fi 7 is expected to be able to achieve a maximum data transfer speed of up to 40 Gbps, which is almost five times faster than the previous version. The new wireless standard, for example, is compatible with Intel Meteor Lake processors, introduced less than a month ago, and it is also supported by the flagship smartphone OnePlus 12, announced in China last December and preparing for international release in the coming days.
