Rumors about all-wheel drive were denied by the head of the brand

According to Autocar, Volkswagen ID. 3, which is an all-electric alternative to the Golf, will become significantly more powerful this year thanks to the introduction of a new sports version.

Presumably, the car may be called Volkswagen ID.3 GTX, which has not yet been officially confirmed. It was previously reported that the upgraded electric hatchback would be available with all-wheel drive, but current brand boss Thomas Schafer denied such plans.

Volkswagen ID. 3 GTX will remain rear-wheel drive, like all other trims, but will most likely receive an upgraded APP550 electric motor from the automaker, significantly more powerful than the existing AP310 unit.

This is the same electric motor that powers the Volkswagen ID. 7 and develops a power of 281 hp. (206 kW). Compared to the currently most powerful ID. 3, Pro S, this is an increase of 80 hp. (59 kW). The new motor will have better cooling and a more efficient inverter.
