Considering that the Golf GTI Mk8.5 already has 261 hp
Volkswagen introduced the latest petrol Volkswagen Golf (this is an updated eighth-generation model) four days ago, but then the most powerful version – Golf R– not a word was said. And now the company has shown the «most evil» Golf.
Despite the fact that other versions (up to the Golf GTI) have already been declassified, the Golf R was presented in camouflage. Apparently, because its premiere is expected only by the summer: the company did not want to «shine» its obvious differences from the same Golf GTI. However, one innovation is noticeable: a radar is installed in the center of the front bumper, the data of which will be used in various driver assistance systems. The current Golf R does not have such a radar, but other versions of the Golf Mk8.5 have it.
The issue of power of the new Golf R is perhaps the most pressing. The fact is that the Golf GTI gained 20 hp with the update. – power has increased to 261 hp, and in this parameter it is closer to the current Golf R (315 hp). Accordingly, in order to maintain distance between these two models, Volkswagen must also increase the power of the updated Golf R. But what the increase will be (the same 20 hp or more) is difficult to say. But what the Golf R Mk8.5 will definitely have – all-wheel drive and branded «robot» DSG.
