Sony and Nintendo team up to create The Legend of Zelda movie

In an interview with Deadline, Sony Motion Pictures Group President Tom Rothman revealed that the studio is partnering with Nintendo to bring The Legend of Zelda video game series to the big screen.

Rothman said that working closely with Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of The Legend of Zelda, will ensure that the film will be true to the essence of the series and surprise fans. Plot details and casting details have not yet been revealed, but the appearance of The Legend of Zelda action movie is sure to make a big splash, especially among fans of Nintendo and the franchise.

Rothman believes that the movie will will continue to be an important part of the entertainment industry, despite the development of streaming services. He champions the importance of original content, arguing that the era of “intellectual property tyranny” (films based on existing IP) is coming to an end. To succeed, he said, studios need to take more creative risks.
