Sony and Honda are preparing three new cars at once: users will be offered Sony games and films

Sony Honda Mobility — joint automobile venture between Honda and Sony. The company's goal is to create electric vehicles with advanced self-driving technology. This week new details emerged about when the company's first models will appear.

According to Nikkei Asia, in addition to the previously announced Afeela electric sedan due in 2025, Sony Honda Mobility will release a crossover in 2027 and a less expensive compact model in 2028 or later. All three cars will be built on the same platform.

Sony's compact Honda Mobility model will presumably use the same components as Honda's own electric vehicles to keep prices down. The company unveiled a sedan concept at CES ahead of the production model's launch in 2026.

The Afeela sedan, due in 2025, uses front and rear electric motors producing 241 hp. every. The car is equipped with a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 91.0 kW·h. Sales in the US should start in early 2026.

Sony Honda Mobility will fill Afeela with technology. The pre-production model received 45 sensors, including lidar and eight cameras. Qualcomm's chips will supposedly provide the processing power to support Level 3 self-driving technology, meaning a human will still need to take over the controls from time to time.

Inside, almost the entire dashboard is occupied by a screen. Sony intends to provide access to its huge library of films, as well as the ability to play on this screen.
