More than a third of respondents plan to buy such a car
Russians are showing increasing interest in electric vehicles, as reported to NSN by the director of communications for dealer holdings «Avtodom» and «AutoSpetsCenter» Anna Utkina.
The electric vehicle segment became the fastest growing segment in the auto market in 2023, with sales up 290% compared to 2022. According to a survey conducted by the Group of Companies «Avtodom» together with the company «Rosgosstrakh», 38% of surveyed car owners plan to buy an electric car. Manufacturers of electric vehicles in Russia are increasing production volumes at the fastest pace in the industry.
«Such results were achieved largely thanks to benefits, including not only free travel on toll roads. Russians are attracted by the absence of a transport tax and exemption from paying for parking in large cities. The extension of the preferential regime, as well as the expansion of the number of routes providing free travel for owners of electric vehicles, will certainly encourage people to make a choice in favor of electric vehicles», — said Anna Utkina.
Further growth in sales of electric vehicles in Russia should be facilitated by an increase in the number of charging stations for them, which are still in short supply.
«In 2023 in Russia, per one charging station, including «home» charging, there were three electric vehicles. In countries with a large number of electric vehicles, there are about ten electric vehicles per charge. That is, the development of a network of charging stations is progressing at a pace that is faster than the growth of the electric fleet. Advanced development is borrowed from global practice. The Russian government plans to launch 9.4 thousand charging stations by the end of 2024. And from 2024 to 2030 — put into operation another 72 thousand stations. One of the measures could be a positive solution to the issue of mandatory installation of charging stations during the construction of public buildings. And also providing motorists with the opportunity to install slow charging stations themselves in underground or surface parking lots of apartment buildings without contacting the energy company. These issues are currently being studied by the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Construction», — Utkina added.
