And in the first half of 2027 it will be included in the power grid

As we already wrote, installation of the «reactor of the future»has begun in Seversk, Tomsk region. BREST-OD-300 with lead coolant, and now it has become known when they plan to launch it. According to Rosatom General Director Alexei Likhachev, the physical launch of the innovative reactor will take place in 2026, and the inclusion of the reactor in the power grid is planned for the first half of 2027.

A power unit with a capacity of 300 MW with the BREST-OD-300 reactor plant is being built as part of the Breakthrough project, the goal of which is — creation of a new technological platform in the nuclear industry that has no analogues in the world. It is assumed that a platform based on a closed nuclear fuel cycle using fast neutron reactors will make it possible to eliminate severe accidents at nuclear power plants, generate electricity without accumulating irradiated nuclear fuel, and repeatedly reuse spent nuclear fuel.

In addition to the power unit, the experimental demonstration power complex in Seversk will include on-site nuclear fuel cycle facilities: a complex for the production of mixed uranium-plutonium nitride fuel and a module for reprocessing irradiated nuclear fuel. After reprocessing, irradiated fuel will be sent for refabrication with multiple recycling of fissile materials. Thus, the system will gradually become practically autonomous and independent of external supplies of energy resources.
