Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida, in an interview with Norges Bank Investment Management, explained how the PlayStation division will operate in the coming years. The company is looking at gaming more broadly than before.
Sony will continue to release consoles and games for PS5, as well as offer them on other devices – PC, mobile devices and through the cloud.
< em>“Everything will become more universal. Wherever there is a PC, users will be able to play their favorite games seamlessly. PlayStation will remain our core product, but we will extend our gaming experience to PC, mobile devices and the cloud.”
The Japanese giant will not focus on offering games by subscription.
“People usually play one game at a time. So whatever you might experience in a few games may not be as valuable when compared to streaming services. Therefore, the PlayStation Network will be something like a balanced or hybrid service: subscription and payment for content.”
Regarding the acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft he said:
“Healthy competition is essential to a thriving gaming industry, and at Sony we believe it is important to provide gamers with a variety of gaming options. Therefore, we will continue to make efforts to achieve this goal.”
