Order in the gallery: stacks of Google Photos have reached Android

Google has begun distributing a new Google Photos feature called Photo Stack to devices running the Android operating system. Initially, the innovation debuted at the end of 2023 on iOS. 

The Photo Stack feature groups similar photos together to organize a user's photo feed. However, such merging of files does not change the amount of available space in the storage.

As a result, the user can see the best pictures for each stack in the «Photos» section. The developers explained:

Click on a photo stack and scroll through the files in it using the ribbon at the bottom. To view other photos not in the stack, swipe left or right. You can also switch to grid view mode to perform actions on multiple files at once.
