It is expected in 2027
Information continues to come from Japan that Mitsubishi is working on a luxury SUV, the Mitsubishi Pajero, the first information about which appeared at the beginning of the year.
Mitsubishi explored the possibility of creating a new Pajero based on the Triton frame platform, but came to the conclusion that it was impossible to achieve the desired level of comfort with such a design. The company eventually turned its attention to the Renault Nissan Mitsubishi Alliance's electrified platform, which will underpin the next-generation Outlander, and decided it was a better fit for the new Pajero.
As carscoops writes, the Japanese publication Best Car confirms that the car will be sold exclusively as a plug-in hybrid. It will get an upgraded version of the 2.4-liter plug-in hybrid four-cylinder engine found in the current Outlander PHEV. In any case, the transmission must be connected to the proprietary S-AWC all-wheel drive system.
The Japanese publication also claims that the new Pajero will be larger than the Outlander: its length will exceed 4900 mm, its height will be 1850 mm, and its width will be 1900 mm. Its price in Japan is expected to be $53,000, and sales will begin in 2027.
