In general, this is quite a significant event for the Chinese automobile industry: BYD Explorer No. 1 is the first ship built by a Chinese shipyard and intended for the export of cars produced by Chinese enterprises. The ship, built by China International Marine Containers Group (CIMC), is 653 feet (199 meters) long and capable of carrying 7,000 vehicles. The vessel should «ensure BYD fast delivery and expansion of international sales markets».
On January 9, the first BYD ship designed to transport electric vehicles arrived at Yantai Port. His next stop will be Shenzhen, where the car will be loaded, and then he will go to Europe. Formally, the ship belongs to Zodiac Maritime, and BYD leased it as the first asset of its future “marine fleet”.

The world leader in electric vehicle sales is rapidly expanding its presence in new markets – BYD is already No. 1 in key automotive markets such as Thailand, Brazil and Colombia. The brand is also growing rapidly in Mexico, Australia, India and some other countries. Over the past two years alone, the company has established supplies to approximately 60 countries and territories. And BYD continues its offensive despite an anti-subsidy investigation by the EU, which risks escalating into an EU trade war with China (Orban, meanwhile, allows the Chinese at BYD to build a second plant in Hungary), and US countermeasures to end the era of Chinese dominance in the green minerals market.

Meanwhile, BYD is encroaching on Tesla's sacred place in the C-SUV segment – in a fairly short period of time, it has released several mid-size electric crossovers to compete with the current bestseller and the most popular car of 2023, Tesla Model Y. Less than a month ago, BYD released the stylish Song L, which starts from 189,800 yuan ($27 thousand) with a power reserve of up to 662 km. For comparison, Tesla Model Y in China is now offered at a price of 258,900 yuan ($36.3 thousand). According to Chinese market research firm CarFans, Song L collected more than 8,000 orders in its first three days on the market.
