No need to select applications, services, search engines or anything else
Perhaps this is what the gadgets of the near future that will replace smartphones will look like. The startup Rabbit introduced a device called R1, which is based on artificial intelligence and can do everything conditionally.
Of course, very conditionally, but still. The main idea of Rabbit — the most simplified interaction with the gadget using the simplest tool — vote. R1 is based on a Large Action Model (LAM). This is artificial intelligence, similar to Google Assistant or a similar service. That is, it seems that this is not at all an analogue of ChatGPT with voice input. But this AI can launch applications itself, search for information, place orders, and so on, without burdening the user with unnecessary details. That is, a person does not choose in which service to start playing music, in which search engine to search for information, through which service to order movie tickets, and so on.
But that's not all that R1 can do. It’s easier to watch the video to understand what else the device can do, but we’ll note the ability to evaluate the image through the camera (its quality, however, is terrible), and this can be as simple as “finding a music album by its cover.” , and much more complex, like «process data from Excel, convert and send by e-mail». R1 can also use some kind of neural networks to generate images or other tasks. Moreover, the user does not understand and does not think about how it works. There is no need to register on some service, search for some sites, and so on — AI does all this.
Separately, it is worth noting the possibility of training internal AI. The R1 has a special mode for this, where you can show the device through the camera and explain what needs to be done, and then the AI will do it itself. True, this particular function was not shown at the presentation, so it is difficult to say how correctly it will work after just one example for training.
We should also say something about the design. It was created with the participation of the famous company Teenage Engineering, and the device looks accordingly: laconic, technologically advanced, and at the same time bright and unique.
As for the characteristics, the R1 is equipped with a 2.88-inch screen, an unknown MediaTek SoC with a frequency of only 2.3 GHz, 4 GB of RAM, 128 GB of flash memory, a camera, the quality of which, judging by the presentation , terrible, and a special roller for control.
The result is an extremely unusual device, which perhaps shows what gadgets of the foreseeable future will look like. True, at the moment, the prospects for such a product are very vague, since now is the era of creating and consuming content, which requires large screens, universality of software and hardware, instant messengers and everything else that we are used to using every day. However, perhaps now Rabbit R1 will find its fans among those who prefer to at least temporarily give up smartphones for the sake of relaxation. Here R1 will be a more universal solution than a regular mobile phone, but the device does not contribute to uncontrolled consumption of information.
It remains to add that the new product is priced at $200 and will be released in March.
