Pininfarina took part in its creation
The maker of the luxury roadster Morgan Plus Six, which has been in production since 2019, has teamed up with Pininfarina to create a special edition Midsummer. Only 50 units of this two-seater sports car will be produced, and all are already pre-sold.
Midsummer features a handcrafted aluminum body that takes over 250 hours to create. Pininfarina took inspiration from 1930s and 1940s designs with a longer rear end. The Midsummer does not have a traditional windshield, which is replaced by a pair of sleek aerodynamic screens. The round headlights are larger than on the Plus Six and now include turn signals and daytime running lights.
The alloy wheels are shod with Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tires. 19-inch forged wheels help keep the weight down to 999 kg. The dashboard is decorated with no less than 126 layers of teak, and each door panel received 120 layers. Morgan said the use of hundreds of layers of handcrafted laminated teak makes the interior more durable.
Technical specifications have not been disclosed, but the standard Plus Six gets a BMW B58 engine. It's a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine that produces 335 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. Power is transmitted through an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission. The standard model takes 4.2 seconds to hit 100 km/h, but the Midsummer can be faster because it's about 114 kg lighter.
