Console owners had an interesting experience playing 7 Days to Die. Getting to know the new version will be complicated

Survival 7 Days to Die, after 10+ years of early access, is preparing for a full release of version 1.0 in 2024. The game is presented on PC, as well as on Xbox and PlayStation consoles, some of whose owners were recently outraged by the announcement of The Fun Pimps studio.

The developers of 7 Days to Die reported:

«Due to significant technical differences between older and current consoles, we will not be updating the older version of [the game] . Owners of older versions will have to buy a new game. However, we are working closely with Sony and Microsoft to provide digital owners with a discount on the purchase of the new console edition“.

Some members of the 7 Days to Die community sided with the developers on this issue and expressed their readiness to buy the game a second time – the console versions have a “complicated history.”

The fact is that on consoles the game was published by Telltale Publishing as “version 1.0” and users note that “According to the rules of the Microsoft and PSN stores, any game released in version 1.0 cannot receive updates that would break compatibility with existing saves.” From a certain point, updates for 7 Days to Die broke saves; and in general, the console version is very different from the game on PC; there are difficulties with rights due to Telltale's bankruptcy.

A situation has arisen where re-releasing 7 Days to Die is the only workable option for developers.
