No support for 360-degree and VR video yet
YouTube, like Netflix, decided not to release an application for the Apple Vision Pro headset when sales of the devices began. However, the company has now confirmed that such an app is in development.
YouTube spokesperson Jessica Gibby said: «We are very excited about the launch of Vision Pro and support it in ensuring YouTube users have a great Safari experience. We do not have any specific plans at this time, but we can confirm that the Vision Pro application is included in the work schedule».
However, the first users of Apple Vision Pro did not suffer much from the lack of the YouTube application, since both long videos and Shorts work fine in the Safari browser.
However, support for a large library of 360-degree and VR videos is not yet available in Apple Vision Pro: YouTube has had 3D support since 2011, and support for 360-degree video — since 2016, but none of it works on Vision Pro.
An Apple spokesperson said that «most of these videos were created for devices that do not provide high-quality spatial experiences. In some cases, this content may also cause discomfort when moving. We're focused on delivering the best spatial media experience, including spatial photos and videos, Apple Immersive Video, and 3D movies available on Apple TV.
As a reminder, early Apple Vision Pro customers who forgot their password were forced to return their headsets to Apple for a reset.
On «Yandex Market» offer Apple Vision Pro mixed reality glasses. The basic version with 256 GB of flash memory for 893,999 rubles can be obtained on Thursday, February 8.
