Xbox executive explains reasons for shutting down Bethesda studios

Matt Booty addressed staff regarding the studio closures and said that “the changes are based on prioritizing high-performing games.”

“Today I'm sharing the changes we're making to our Bethesda and ZeniMax teams. These changes are about prioritizing high-impact games and continuing to invest in Bethesda's portfolio of blockbuster games and beloved worlds you've nurtured for decades.

< p>To double down on these franchises and invest in creating new ones, you need to look at the entire business and identify the opportunities that are best positioned for success. This change in priorities means that some teams will be reassigned to others, and some of our colleagues will leave us.

We are making these tough decisions to create opportunities to increase investment in other parts of our portfolio and focus on our priority games.”

The letter states that Microsoft is eyeing new franchises within the Xbox and Bethesda. We should probably expect statements from other executives in the future.
