Wow, a gift for the New Year: Valve called the new wave of Dota 2 bans a “bloodbath”

Tens of thousands of accounts were blocked in just one day

The Valve company shared its new achievement in the field of combating cheating in the cult game Dota 2. This was done in an announcement dedicated to the launch of a large-scale pre-New Year update Frostivus 2023 (&Frozenness 2023& ;raquo;).

With the launch of the update, players will see a special Frostivus gift in their accounts. Depending on the behavior, the gift may contain coal (ban or warning) for being on the «Naughty List» or a free cosmetic set for being on the «List of Good».

Valve developers spoke about their most aggressive wave of bans:

If you behaved badly, then we have great news for everyone else and bad news for you — This year we are in for a bloodbath. You may remember that in September we pulled out the ban hammer and permanently banned 90,000 smurf accounts. Since then, we have continued not only to personally monitor the behavior of players, but also to analyze their actions using automated systems. The past few weeks have seen another, more aggressive wave of bans, including tens of thousands of accounts banned today.

Remember, smurf accounts — These are alternative, additional accounts that are created by players for the sake of certain violations of the rules, for example, to raise the rating of the main account, to use cheats, and so on. In addition to smurf accounts, under «blow» other offenders also get caught:

And smurfing — This is not the only dubious activity. Among other things, some offenders ruin others' games and lose their integrity, and then hire other people to bring it back up. Regardless of what exactly you did wrong, we were watching you (but, of course, not how you sleep), and today we are taking strict measures. All of the above violations will be punished, in particular, by a decrease in integrity,  and in the most serious cases — blocking main accounts.
