“There will be no more Redmi routers”
The head of the smart equipment market of Xiaomi China confirmed that the company's future routers will not bear the Redmi brand, but will be simply called Xiaomi: «There will be no more Redmi routers in the future».
The last Redmi router was the Redmi AX6000, which went on sale on April 6, 2022. The brand has not released new products in this segment for more than 2 years.
Various Chinese sources confirm that Xiaomi is simplifying its line of routers and is also abandoning the release of routers under the Redmi brand. And there are well-founded reasons for this.
There are currently five Wi-Fi 6 routers under the Redmi brand on the Xiaomi website: Redmi Router AX5400, AX6000, AX3000, AX6S and Redmi Gaming Router AX5400. They range from $33 to $65. At the same time, Xiaomi already has routers under its main brand in this price range. So, the discontinuation of the Redmi router line will not have a significant impact on Xiaomi's overall router offerings. Consumers looking for affordable Wi-Fi 6 routers will still have a large selection of Xiaomi-branded gadgets to choose from.
Xiaomi is allegedly aiming to simplify product segmentation, as well as increase brand awareness and streamline marketing efforts by focusing on a single brand of routers. Additionally, consolidating router production under one brand can lead to increased production efficiency and cost savings.
