It should also be faster than competing solutions
Western Digital introduced the industry's first 3D QLC NAND memory chip with a capacity of 2 TB, which corresponds to a capacity of 256 GB.
The chip is currently in the prototype stage, but the company says this NAND chip offers the highest density NAND on the market and potentially higher performance than existing solutions on the market. < /p>
I'm very excited to share with you a preview of the BiCS8 2Tb 3D QLC die. We designed this chip to meet the needs of data centers and artificial intelligence storage systems. We're going to be announcing this product soon, but I wanted to share it with you today. This is the world's most powerful memory crystal

WD says its latest NAND memory chip is specifically designed for artificial intelligence and data center applications. More precisely, the new chip uses a 218-layer BiCS8 node, created in collaboration with Kioxia. According to Western Digital, with the new chip, manufacturers can offer 4TB of storage capacity in a single 16-die package, and a 1TB configuration can be achieved with just four flash memory chips.
Speaking of performance, Western Digital says its new NAND chip offers 50% more memory density than the previous generation, beating the competition by 15–19%. Moreover, this chip delivers 50% higher I/O performance while consuming 13% less power.
